Healthy Weight, Healthy Life Adopting healthy eating habits and being physically active are some of the best ways to maintain a healthy weight. And maintaining a healthy weight reduces your risk for more than 10 types of cancer. Get tips and tools to help you eat better, be more active and monitor your weight. 

We will find out how maintaining a healthy weight reduces cancer risk. Learn the importance of portion size, eliminating extra calories and eating a plant-based diet for losing weight. Discover the benefits of staying active through exercise and movement to prevent weight gain. Get answers to the following: Does my weight affect my cancer risk? How can I incorporate healthy eating habits into my diet? How much exercise do I actually need?

Main Speaker Bio:

Andrea Murray, M.A., M.S., C.T.T.S., is a senior community health education specialist at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She provides cancer prevention education and outreach efforts for communities in the Houston area. Murray graduated from the University of Kansas with a master’s degree in Developmental Psychology. She also has a master’s degree in Therapeutic Herbalism from Maryland University of Integrative Health and is a certified tobacco treatment specialist.

Musician Bio:

Brightwire is an Americana band born from a household of musicians and hailing from southeast Texas. Combining elements of folk, rock, country, punk and whatever else they happen to get interested in, they weave tales of lives lived in our world today. For them, music is about inclusion and letting others know they are not alone in their struggles.
